Off-Road Racing Organization Concerned About Effects of Proposed Solar Plant in Primm, Nevada.

on 14 September 2009

Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts (SNORE) will hold a rally at the local offices of Senator Harry Reid, 333 Las Vegas Boulevard South , Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 4 p.m. (local time).

This segment of the off-highway vehicle (OHV) community is protesting the closure of a tortoise habitat and historical racing area during the scoping period of the proposed Silver State Solar Project located between Primm and Jean Nevada (south of the Ivanpah Airport), on 7,840 acres.

During the scoping meetings held by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with Nextlight Renewable Power, LLC. (proposed leasee/operator) on August, 12 (Primm), 13 (M Resort), 18 (Gold Strike), it was brought out that the power generated at the station would be proposed to be sold on the open market to existing and proposed power transmission lines that do NOT feed the power needs of local Nevadans. Due to the fact that Nevadans are being asked to give up open desert land and traditional trails and racing areas and not being offered another area for these uses, we wish to tell the Senator that enough is enough. The Jean/Primm area is our last great central race course. We want to protect our ability to recreate.

Other Solar Projects - Scoping meetings on-going: Solar Millennium, LLC. Amargosa Farm Road Solar Energy Project (NVN-0844359) near Amargosa Valley , NV , meetings: 8/17, 18, 24.
